Dad died, I went to support Mom. Since I am faded and live far away, no issues resulted. Non-JW aunt was disappointed in the amount of built-in Witnessing in the talk, but I was actually surprised - the brother had been a friend of my dad's, and did a good job - better than I would have ever expected, and minimized the preaching relative to others I have heard.

If your still-JW parent died...
by starfish422 inwould you attend the funeral/memorial service?
assuming that it would be held in a kh; or even if it wasn't.. this is something that's been on my mind lately; honestly, i'm not sure why.
my parents are both still relatively young; 60 and 61. my dad has been diagnosed with skin cancer but both are otherwise healthy.. i really don't know whether i would; particularly for my father.

The Only Way to Improve Your Life is by Studying with JWs!
by Funchback inthis statement appears to be absolute truth if you were to ask any one of jehovah's witnesses to answer the question: who can one turn to for help in making positive changes in their life?
the literature that they read is peppered with examples of people who once were violent or drug addicted or had other addictions such as alcohol or gambling and are now one of jehovah's witnesses.
first, do you believe that one can only make a change by studying the bible with jws?

Yeah, I love the idea that the only responsibility worthy of the name is schlepping books. Forget career, family, and all the rest.

Should Foster Children Be Forced to Attend the Meetings?
by Funchback inhttp://www.wate.com/global/story.asp?s=1494675
billy johnson is a jehovah's witness .
who says he takes kids to meetings to supervise them.. .

Well, foster kids are a gray area as far as what parents can do with them.
A better question is "do people who believe in corporal punishment as being commanded by God, and who deny possibly life-saving medical treatments, qualify as foster parents?"

Our Heroes--past and present
by Vita Nuova ini really hope to get a ton of responses for this topic, so even if you're just browsing through postings and topics, please add your two cents...however brief.
i am really curious to know who our "heroes" are, those people we admire, identify with, emulate and recieve inspiration from.
feel free to even list former heroes and perhaps why you were taken with admiration for them at that point in your life and maybe why you don't feel that way any longer.

Watchtower and Monty Python Compared.
by Englishman intoday's "watchtower" site:
"marie comments on another pitfall: "since the calls come directly to the individual, not to the home, there is a danger of parents not being aware of whom their kids are talking to or even whether they are on the phone or not.
some have dropped their guard, bypassing standards they would normally observe when communicating with others.

You might be a jW if...
by Valis in*lol* i found these on some jw's website...*lol* he had the font and background color white so you couldn't really see them...*lol* straight from the horse's mouth no less..
you might be a jw if.... if you feel that death is more important than birth
if you have constant pain in your right shoulder and can't unclasp your right hand; you probably have bookbagitis, a disease unique to jw's

Here is a link to the article (it's actually great): When doing laundry, Americans cling to outmoded ways. http://www.econ.brown.edu/~asanz/global_03/reading_day2.pdf
The last two pages are discussion questions - I found this on a college web site.

Anyone who had ever seen that site knows that those kids needed to get a life in the worst way. Hopefully they don't just spend the time in field service.

Hey, I even iron and do the cooking (but my CPA fiancee does the taxes and the bills).
I use Seventh Generation without colors and fragrances - I have a slight allergy. Works great. Used to use CheerFree, worked good too.
BTW< the Wall Street Journal had an article a year or two ago saying that no one in the US reads the manual on their washer, and if we did it right, such as putting the soap in first, into the water, and then putting the clothes in, we would have cleaner clothes. So RTFM!
